
European territorial cooperation is now an Objective of the EU cohesion policy. It aims to promote an increasingly integrated European territory through the sustainable and balanced development of European regions.
Regions and towns are encouraged to overcome national borders to organise cooperation projects and improve the exchange of experience, thanks to a € 8 billion budget for 2007-2013.
The Nord-Pas de Calais Region is involved in 4 INTERREG programmes and is the main Managing Authority in Europe. Through the European Institute for Territorial Cooperation (EITC), the Region decided to share its expertise in the field of European territorial cooperation with all European regions.
